Holly The Christmas Day Ferret

hollyWe are hoping that the season of goodwill extends to animals in need as well as people..  Below is the rather sad story of a badly injured ferret, she is in foster care at the moment and Rain Rescue have kindly paid for urgently needed vets treatment, her foster career sent me this message.

I have named the little ferret Holly as she was found on Christmas day on some allotments at Handsworth, she was actually found in a chicken coup and has some pretty bad wounds the vet doesn't think that the chickens did it though, it may possibly be rats.

The vet thinks that Holly is quite old, she has been cared for in the past as her claws are short, but she does have quite bad cataracts and so far as we can see is just about blind.

Rainrescue is footing the bill for Holly's care so we are appealing for help for Rain to fund her vet care, we have high hopes that Holly can recover and she will spend the rest of her time in foster care here unless her owner can be found...which I think is pretty unlikely.

Please, if you can spare any amount no matter how small please make a donation to Rain Rescue, they are only a small rescue centre and their main focus is dogs and cats but they will step in and help any animal in need if they can - your generosity allows them to continue doing this much needed work.

Lots of Staffies

Helping Hands Dog Rescue have recently rescued 15 Staffies that were at great risk of being put to sleep.  Unfortunately we don't have a great deal of info yet but in the meantime you can view their photo gallery or contact the rescue on (0114) 2484754 / 0794 9404183.

A Message From Daphne

daphneHi, i'm Daphne (left) and although no-one really knows how or why i found myself in the pound and it was horrible, all those other dogs looking so sad and lonely just hoping and waiting for someone to collect them.  I was there for a couple of weeks before Rain Rescue kindly squeezed me in, two weeks felt like an eternity but i know i was one of the lucky ones as some spend much longer there and i've been told that a few unfortunate souls never leave....

Rain Rescue looked after me, took me out for walks and taught me some manners, you see i'm only a youngster and got a bit carried away at times.  My story has a happy ending though as after a little while a couple came and fostered me for a week but secretly i think it was love at first sight as 6 months later I'm still here!  I'm now in my forever home getting lots of loves, fuss and cuddles and for the first time in my life feel happy and wanted.  It does still make me sad though when i look back and think about my time at the pound and realise that not all of them are going to be as lucky as me so please look at my fellow poundies and rescue dogs - they are all thinking "i need a home" and they deserve one too.

Loves and sloppy kisses
Daphne xxxx
